PETERBILT 389 / 379 BUS GLASS INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

For first-time installs and replacements

1. Removing the Factory Peterbilt Glass

  1. Cut theĀ inside moldingĀ all the way around.

  2. Apply slow, even pressure from the inside andĀ push the glass outwardĀ until it releases.

  3. IMPORTANT:

    • RemoveĀ allĀ remaining butyl from the opening before installing the new bus-style glass.

    • Do not leave any old adhesive behind — it will affect fitment.

2. Removing Previously Installed Bus Glass (If Your Truck Already Has Bus Glass)

  1. Pull out theĀ lock stripĀ (chrome or black).

  2. Push the glass outward with light pressure until it comes free.

  3. Clean the rubber completely — remove all old sealant before reinstalling.

INSTALLATION OF 389 / 379 BUS GLASS

3. Preparing the Lock-Strip Rubber

  1. Install theĀ lock-strip rubberĀ onto the truck’s pinch weld.

  2. Position theĀ seam at the center of the bottomĀ of the frame.

  3. Rubber adjustment:

    • If the glass does not sit tight, gentlyĀ pull the rubber away from the cornersĀ to improve alignment.

    • Minor stretching and adjusting is normal.

IMPORTANT:

Use ONLY the lock-strip rubber supplied in the kit.
Other rubbers may cause the glass to fit incorrectly or not fit at all.

4. Installing the Glass Into the Rubber

  1. Spray the rubber withĀ glass cleaner or silicone sprayĀ for lubrication.

  2. Set theĀ bottom edge of the glassĀ into the rubber channel first.

  3. Using aĀ white stick or hook tool, work the rubber over the glass:

    • Start at the bottom

    • Move up each side

    • Finish along the top

CRITICAL SAFETY NOTE:

  • UseĀ steady, light pressure only.

  • Do NOT push hard on the glass — bus glass will break with excessive force.

5. Final Seating and Inspection

  1. Once fully installed,Ā massage the rubberĀ around the entire perimeter:

    • Rubber to glass

    • Rubber to pinch weld
This ensuresĀ even, equal coverage on all four sides.

6. Sealing

  1. ApplyĀ non-acidic siliconeĀ between:

    • Rubber and glass

    • Rubber and body

  2. Do not use acidic silicone — it can damage stainless and paint.

7. Installing the Lock Strip

  1. Install theĀ black or chrome lock stripĀ using a proper lock-strip tool.

  2. Make sure the lock strip snaps in fully for a tight seal.

8. Cleanup

  1. Remove excess silicone using:

    • White sticks

    • Razor blades (ONLY along the glass edge — never against painted surfaces)

  2. Wipe clean for a finished appearance.

About twice as thick as the factory trp windshields, even with the tool for the lock ring it fought for a good hour before giving up and looking good. First time installing these kind of windshields. Would buy again but save my hands and pay someone else to install.

Got my bus glass installed by my local glass company Bristol auto glass in Bristol Tennessee this week , not got my new reverse drop visor installed yet but will add more pics as i get it this weekend installed. The glass is excellent in quality, gives the 389 a fantastic old school look and should been way Peterbilt kept it instead of that rubber seal factory
